This seminar will feature a detailed New York State tax update by Mark Klein featuring the new 2019-2020 NYS budget, new enforcement initiatives, NY estate tax issues and residency rules, and an analysis of the effects of TC&JA on NYS taxes. Joe Endres will present an update on NYS sales tax rules and abandoned property rules.

The afternoon session by Professor Barry Leibowicz will discuss the practical and technical skills necessary to represent clients in tax audits by Federal, State and Local tax authorities for foreign or domestic income, sales, excise and payroll tax matters. Mr. Leibowicz will also discuss how civil audits interact with criminal tax investigations, how to identify criminal prosecution potential and respond to an IRS criminal summons, and use Voluntary Disclosure procedures to minimize Federal and State cost and risk. Scott Ahroni will discuss how to determine a worker’s classification, the consequences of misclassification, and the practical and technical skills necessary to represent clients in worker classification and employment tax audits by Federal, State and Local authorities for payroll tax and wage and hour issues linked to worker characterization. Additionally Chaim Kofinas will present an NJ tax update.
